АПЛ типа "Лос-Анджелес" являются многоцелевыми подводными лодками, основное назначение борьба с ПЛ и надводными кораблями противника, ведение разведывательных действий, специальных операций, переброска спецподразделений, нанесение ударов, минирование, поисково-спасательные операции.

17 декабря 2010 года USS Newport News (SSN 750) вернулась в порт приписки Норфолк. Командование АПЛ пригласило на борт атомохода семьи экипажа и познакомило их с бытовыми условиями американских подводников. Пройдемся и мы по отсекам американской субмарины.

 Кают-компания АПЛ и студенты из Северной Каролины на экскурсии.

As part of the Career Orientation and Training for Midshipmen (CORTRAMID), a group of 22 Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) candidates were able to spend 24 hours on deployment with Newport News and experience life in the submarine service.
