USS New Hampshire (SSN 778). ICEX-2011. Arctic Ocean, (March 2011)

АПЛ ВМС США "Нью-Гэмпшир" (USS New Hampshire (SSN 778) класса Вирджиния обеспечивает выполнение программы Ice Exercise 2011 (ICEX-2011) в Арктике

USS New Hampshire (SSN 778) is one of the newest Virginia-class attack submarines. Only one VIRGINIA has operated in the Arctic before – the USS TEXAS in fall 2009.

The submarine has been designed to operate in all environments including the Arctic. We have a basic understanding of how they work but the bulk of the testing we’re doing is designed to learn more.

Some of the tests are being conducted for the organizations that designed and built the VIRGINIAs to ensure that submarine and its systems work per design. Others are being conducted for fleet organizations who want to be able to advise VIRGINIAs that come to the Arctic in the future how best to operate the submarine and its systems.
